  • NLR & Dutch Military – Artex (2020-2024)

    [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=358kk1xhMXE[/embedyt]

The goal of this project is to consider the way Augmented Reality (AR) can improve and speed up the TE process in Counter-IED operations, while decreasing operational risks. To attain this goal, three technology demonstrators (TRL 6-7) are developed, aiming to rise to the aforementioned challenges.

Throughout this project, I played a comprehensive role from inception to completion. Initially, the primary focus was on generating features that operators could utilize effectively.… Read more.

  • NLR – AR in (Remote) Airtraffic Tower Control (2021)

    [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQ_icHVys0w[/embedyt]

For this project, I developed a quick demonstrator to showcase the capabilities of the HoloLens within the context of Air Traffic Control (ATC). The user is provided with real-time information about aircraft near the airport, specifically within the NARSIM, the in-house NLR ATC Research Simulator.

I created labels (visible at 0:51 in the video) that are displayed at the location of each aircraft. When a problem occurs, such as a runway incursion or a go-around, a pop-up appears to direct the user to the affected aircraft.… Read more.

  • NLR – MUST (2020-present)

    [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ccze9rr-hb0[/embedyt]

NLR’s MUST facility is a research simulator that is intentionally kept generic and reconfigurable, so it can be deployed in a wide range of research areas. The facility comprises the simulation of aerial vehicles and their payloads, the environment (wind, other entities, etc), the datalink ánd the ground control station (GCS).

In this project I was tasked to create a HMI together with a colleague based on an existing HMI.… Read more.

  • Nuveon – Engines (2019-2020)

    [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5Rv27jQjoA[/embedyt]

This project was a collaberation between KLM and NLR in which the HoloLens is used to get Maintenance Crew certified.

Throughout this project, I played a comprehensive role from inception to completion. The primary focus of this project was to create a training which could replace an actual physical training. This was done by first creating the application for the B787-RR. After this engine was complete and the training was validated the other 2 engines B777-RR and the B777-PW were added.… Read more.

  • Nuveon – Maintenance Training (2018-2019)

    [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_DWeivjlHk[/embedyt]

This was a Proof of Concept to see if the HoloLens could be used in the KLM classroom to familiarize the students with the workings of aircraft systems. The POC had 3 systems:

    • Air-conditioning
    • Equipment Cooling
    • Fuel

Every systems has visuals which teach the student where components are located and has some problem solving modes, in which the student can show their knowledge by solving the issue.

    Skills used

Communication: Location of the HoloLenses and the state of the training was synchronized via Mirror Networking.… Read more.

  • NLR – Augmented Reality Maintenance (2015)

    [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cxMfcid3F4[/embedyt]

This was my first encounter with ‘AR’. In my first internship at NLR I created a demonstrator in which the user could show the underlying information of an aircraft component. AR helps with identifying where damaged areas are.

This application was made in Unity using Vuforia for the tracking.… Read more.

  • IAmsterdam – Cityguide (2015)

    [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRmZSa4SItc[/embedyt]

This was a school project in which we were placed at DigitasLBi for 1 day in the week. During this project we wanted to make a Cityguide using wearables (in our case a smart watch). First we created designs of how we wanted the application to look, then we created the dataset using public information about Amsterdam.

Finally we could plan the route via the phone, and use the watch to get notifications about the route, without having the grab the phone again!… Read more.
