During the day I am an Application Engineer from the Netherlands. I work with techniques like Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality within (but not limited to) the Aerospace Domain.
Jobs
NLR – Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre – 2018-Present
I’ve been working here as an Application Engineer/Programmer. Mostly focused on Human Machine Interaction Technologies. I’ve worked on civil projects and also military projects.
Study
I studied Game Development at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, where I learned programming and teamwork. During this course, I discovered that these skills could be used in areas beyond just game development. A highlight of my studies was a semester-long project in which my team designed and built a smartwatch app. The app functioned as a route planner, guiding users to popular sightseeing spots across Amsterdam directly from their wrist.
HoloLens & Mixed Reality
I’ve been working as a HoloLens developer since 2017 and have always been fascinated by how augmented reality can improve workflows across different industries. I really enjoy building prototypes and products to explore all the possibilities AR has to offer. Along the way, I’ve also had the chance to work with other devices such as the Oculus Quest, which has broadened my experience with immersive technology.
Web development
Recently at work I’ve been spending my time using React for Web Development and using my .NET knowledge to be a Full Stack developer. At the same time I’m constantly learning new tools to keep projects organized and connected like Sagas or NSwag.
Skills (most recent first)
- C# | .NET | Unity — Used extensively for application development with Unity and for .NET software projects, including backend development.
- TypeScript | React — For the React web development experience, building scalable, maintainable applications.
- ZeroMQ | RabbitMQ | WebSockets | NSwag | Mirror – Some of the tools I’ve used to best transmit data between servers or clients.
- SAGA | Jest | NUnit | Odin Validator | Zenject – Frameworks and tools I’ve used to keep code organized and/or well tested.
- C++ | Unreal Engine — Applied in diverse projects and also used to build a HoloLens application with Unreal Engine.
- PHP — Experience creating simple websites using frameworks like Laravel, with a focus on back-end functionality.
- Kotlin — Developed and published a compounding interest calculator as a personal side project, demonstrating proficiency in mobile app development and learning new languages in a short time.
- Swift | Xcode – Created a prototype to aid Remote Maintenance via AR and video communication.
- Python — Used for a range of applications, including image recognition projects utilizing libraries like OpenCV.
- Java — Began programming with Processing and later expanded into Java development, including Android applications.
- JavaScript— Experience with web development, utilizing tools like Node.js and libraries such as jQuery to create dynamic user experiences. Experience with building real-time map applications with leaflet.
Free time
In my free time, I enjoy working on self-hosted projects, primarily using Proxmox and Docker containers on Linux (Ubuntu). I host my own website and even provide a backup service for my family. My long-term goal is to create a fully automated smart home, powered by Home Assistant.
I’m also a football fan, following Manchester United on TV and occasionally attending Vitesse matches in person. From time to time, I like to unwind with video games, including League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, or casual titles on the Nintendo Switch.
When I’m not at home, I enjoy attending festivals and socializing with friends — often with a beer in hand.
