Nuveon – Engines (2019-2020)

This project was a collaberation between KLM and NLR in which the HoloLens is used to get Maintenance Crew certified.

Throughout this project, I played a comprehensive role from inception to completion. The primary focus of this project was to create a training which could replace an actual physical training. This was done by first creating the application for the B787-RR. After this engine was complete and the training was validated the other 2 engines B777-RR and the B777-PW were added.

For this me and my colleagues received training to understand how the engine works and we worked tightly together with KLM instructors to achieve a training they could use.

Project Background

“After the successful demonstrator of the augmented reality goggles in training AFIKLM E&M and NLR have developed a vision of the future use of augmented reality by maintenance personnel. Since November 2018 this is turned into an official joint venture NUVEON.

Use of multiple AR goggles for collaborative training. An innovative maintenance training that outperforms existing training in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. Nuveon recommends using augmented reality goggles, in a collaborative way. This has hardly been done yet.” Taken from: https://www.nuveon.com

Skills Used

Communication: Location of the HoloLenses and the state of the training was synchronized via Mirror Networking.

Application Development: Unity (C#) was used to create the HoloLens application for the maintenance crew to receive their training.
